The following testing was done on a 14 karat yellow gold disc that was approximately 0.75 mm - 1.00 mm thick. Using the following settings I was able to get insanely fine details and clear legibility with text that was less than 1mm in size.
- Image [SVG image with a solid black image on a transparent background]
- Engrave
- Fiber IR laser type
- 150 microns dot duration
- 1 - 100 % power range
- 1,200 dpi
- 1 pass
- Grayscale bitmap mode
- Bi-Directional engraving mode
- 30 kHz
One caveat on my testing is that I had to clean the surface after the engraving was done as it had a "slag" buildup wherever the laser passed. This was especially true with other settings, but even with the above settings there was some buildup. I conducted this testing in my home office (not shop) so I used Tabasco sauce to clean the gold. (It works wonders on copper....) I also thoroughly rinsed in water and wiped the 14 karat gold plate clean.
All close-up examinations were done at 10X magnification (with a loupe).
I will need to update or reply in this thread with Text settings on 14 karat yellow gold.
