We have been using Matrix for years, with the regular set of issues. Today, a new issue was introduced to us. This new issue is that Matrix started up, but once it was open the menu buttons are unresponsive. Specifically, the menu bar at the top of the program window does not respond, it is as though the menu is frozen.

So we have a fix!

The fix was taken from Gil Remillong's post.

To fix the Matrix 9 Menu Bar being unresponsive, create three new Windows Firewall rules. I am going to go through the entire process here:
  1. Open Windows Settings
  2. Select Network & internet
  3. Click Advanced network settings
  4. Select Windows Firewall, which should open a new window
  5. Select Advanced settings; you may have to authenticate as an Administrator for the computer/domain
  6. Select Outbound Rules
  7. 01 Select New Rule
  8. Select Program, then click the Next> button
  9. Browse to the program’s path ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix90\") (If you get a warning when you click "browse" just click OK to close the warning.)
    • Select the Matrix90.exe program ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix90\Matrix90.exe"), then click the Open button
    • Click the Next button
  10. Select Block the connection, then click the Next> button
  11. Select all three choices, then click the Next> button
  12. Enter the program’s name and optionally a description
    • Name: Block Matrix90.exe
  13. Click Finish
  14. 02 Select New Rule
  15. Select Program, then click the Next> button
  16. Browse to the program’s path ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix90\") (If you get a warning when you click "browse" just click OK to close the warning.)
    • Select the MatrixStartup.exe program ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix90\MatrixStartup.exe"), then click the Open button
    • Click the Next button
  17. Select Block the connection, then click the Next> button
  18. Select all three choices, then click the Next> button
  19. Enter the program’s name and optionally a description
    • Name: Block MatrixStartup.exe
  20. Click Finish
  21. 03 Select New Rule
  22. Select Program, then click the Next> button
  23. Browse to the program’s path ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix90\") (If you get a warning when you click "browse" just click OK to close the warning.)
    • Select the MatrixUpdater.exe program ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix90\MatrixUpdater.exe"), then click the Open button
    • Click the Next button
  24. Select Block the connection, then click the Next> button
  25. Select all three choices, then click the Next> button
  26. Enter the program’s name and optionally a description
    • Name: Block MatrixUpdater.exe
  27. Click Finish
You can close any remaining windows.

When you are done with the above you will have three new local firewall rules that are blocking the three primary applications that reach out to wherever they reach out and cause issues.

Now you can start Matrix and be patient. It may take a little longer to run, but just let it do its thing. The Matrix menus will be fully operational, as they should be.

As to why this is happening, I am guessing Stuller/Gemvision changed something on their end which is causing issues.
