OS – “Operating System”. This software is only compatible with Windows 64-bit. Mac users can run the software by using ‘Bootcamp’, a free Mac to Windows converter.
CPU – “Central Processing Unit”. For a smooth 3D modeling experience, having a fast processor is important, particularly if you are going to be doing renderings of your designs.
RAM – “Random Access Memory”. Higher RAM will result in faster and smoother performance.
GPU – “Graphics Processor Unit”. As well as a better GPU, we also recommend a stronger power supply if you are going to get involved with rendering and animations.
SSD/HDD – “Solid-State Drive”/“Hard Disk Drive”. Make sure you have available disk space to save all of your designs.

RE: JCD v.14 System Requirements

Post by Javier Odom »

I have a computer that meets the system requirements but for some unknown reason JCD will not install.  As part of our security policy we do not allow remote admin or remote tech support access to our systems which seems to have stymied JCD's ability to provide assistance.  I have upgraded the memory on the computer and will try again, perhaps after I post this.

In the meantime I have ordered a new computer which I should get in a couple weeks.  There is not a lot of software the new box should be able to handle.

Some specifications from HP on the new box:
  • OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC
  • BU RCTO OMEN Z790 45L ArticOC 1200W US
  • Front Bezel Black Glass with RGB liquid cooler and 1200 W 80 Plus Gold certified ATX power supply
  • NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4090 (24 GB GDDR6X dedicated)
  • 2 TB WD Black PCIe® 4x4 NVMe™ TLC M.2 SSD
  • Kingston FURY 64 GB DDR5-5200 MHz XMP RGB Heatsink RAM (4 x 16 GB)
  • Windows 11 Professional High End
  • Intel® Core™ i9-13900K (up to 5.8 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 36 MB L3 cache, 24 cores, 32 threads)
We shall see.

Turns out JCD has a bad self-extracting file and just calls it a big file or a compressed file even though it is clearly an executable.  Had this been made clearer I could have probably installed JCD on my old computer.  Oh well, now I have a serious box for work.

The trick was to uncompress the executable non-self-extracting archive file.  Makes perfect sense.

Now I am in business.  Although, I am working on limiting or managing all the extra program automatic directories created in my Documents.  I like clean directories with subdirectories only I created or that I can manage without breaking an application.  So when the various add-on applications from JCD start auto-populating directories I am in search for the setting that causes them to be spawned.  So far, I have just been deleting them.
Take care, and God bless.
