FRONT: BACK: To replace the battery of this ladies Gucci watch you will want the following:
- brush for cleaning exterior
- small wood or plastic vise
- new razor blade
- strong thin prying tool
- small brass hammer
- non-magnetic flat-head screwdriver (I forget the size, but it is perhaps a 1mm - 1.6mm tip)
- fine tweezers (choose your weapon)
- watch bulb blower
- watch putty
- replacement battery (maybe a 362/SR721SW)
- polishing cloth
- Examine the watch for any external wear or damage, and pay attention to how the back aligns with the top and bottom lugs.
- Brush off any debris on the outside of the watch.
- Place the watch, crown down (in gap), inside of the vise, but tighten only enough to leave a few millimeters of space on both sides. Basically, do not tighten the vise down on the watch, just use the vise to hold the watch in position.
- Using the new razor blade, place it in the crease closest to the back of the watch. This crease is in the yellow metal portion. You should not be touching the black painted portion of the watch.
- Using the small brass hammer, give the back of the razor blade soft but solid taps to get it wedged between the case and the back. These are not power strokes. These are very gentle taps. You do not want to hit the watch more than necessary, but softer taps would be better than harder taps. Once the blade is in place it will be stuck there and you will not need to hold the blade any more.
- Using the prying tool, very gently use the closest lug to press against the lip of the watch back. Do not touch the black paint. If it is not popping off with a little effort, pull the razor blade and re-affix it closer to the watch lug, then try to gently pry the back again.
- With the back off, use the non-magnetic flat-head screwdriver to loosen or remove the cell strap screw, and use the fine tweezers to get the cell strap out of the way or out of the watch with the screw.
- You can probably use the watch putty to get the battery out of the movement once the cell strap is out of the way.
- Use the watch bulb blower to remove any fine dust particles. (This can also blow them into the movement, so your mileage may vary.)
- Put the new battery in place.
- Put the cell strap and cell screw firmly back in place.
- Line the watch back up with the top and bottom lugs as it was originally, and work from a gentle pinch to a firm squeeze to snap the watch back into place. If you use any type of testing equipment, insert that process here.
- Set the watch.
- Use the polishing cloth to clean the exterior of the watch.
